Chapter 4 —Fully Embrace Your Beauty- The Healing Garden Collection

This painting practically painted itself. With each stroke of the brush the image appeared on the canvas, glowing. I simply had to show up and paint where the painting was going.

Three poppies. Three stages of becoming.

A soft white poppy opens tentatively on the left — delicate, just beginning to unfurl, still finding the courage to be seen.

A deep, velvety plum bloom rises in the center — fully open, rooted, unafraid.

A rich purple flower glows boldly to the right — dramatic, confident, completely itself.

Three flowers. Three stages of embracing your beauty. Because we are all the same flower — just at different points in our becoming.

Behind them, the world is alive. Gold shimmer scatters across the canvas like fireflies. Colors that don't ask permission.

Neither should you.

I have thought about this so much over the years — how many women never accept their own beauty. How many of us spend our youth and our middle years waiting to feel beautiful enough, thin enough, clear-skinned enough, enough, enough.

I wish as a young woman I had felt deep down, that I was already enough. Ten pounds lighter or ten pounds heavier. Blemish or no blemish. On my best day and on my worst. I know this sounds so shallow, but women deal with this all the time, even if they are the picture of perfection.

Women so often don't enjoy or accept their beauty when they have it. It isn't until they no longer recognize themselves in the mirror that they wish — they had.

This painting is for every woman who is still waiting to feel beautiful enough. To be enough, have the right job, relationship, clothes, vacations, whatever it might be.The lesson, accept myself for who I am, how I look and where I am at. No one else matters, this is about my life and how I feel. Now we just have to believe it.

You already are beautiful.
