Finding Beauty-Chapter 1
Chapter 1-The Healing Garden Collection
"To laugh often and love much, to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others and to give of oneself." — Ralph Waldo Emerson
I have been a painter for many years.
But I have been an artist my whole life.
Before I ever picked up a paintbrush, I spent 45 years as a hairdresser in my own salon, making sure every single person who walked through my door felt important, valued, and seen. That was my mission. Hello and goodbye to every single person. Every person mattered.
That was not a business philosophy. That was — and is — who I am at my core.
When painting became part of my life, I brought that same mission to the canvas.
I began to see the world differently — like everything around me was already a painting waiting to happen. The ocean. Flowers. Blue skies and sunshine. The ever-changing seasons. The quiet beauty that surrounds us every single day, if we are still enough to notice it.
Then came the hardest seasons.
And I painted my way through every single one.
Finding Beauty is where it all began.
The first painting in The Healing Garden Collection — and the one that set the tone for everything that followed.
Five bold blooms in deep wine, magenta, and soft rose. Their white-centered faces open and unguarded against a rich background of teal, turquoise, and soft violet. A slender gladiolus spike reaching skyward. A whisper of warm orange glowing from the corner like the last light of a summer evening.
I didn't plan any of it. That's the thing about painting — when you let it, it tells you what it needs to say.
What it said here was: Look. There is beauty everywhere. Even here. Especially here.
The Healing Garden is my testimony. Of faith. Of friendship. Of learning to be gentle with myself. Of finding beauty — real beauty — not in perfect circumstances, but in the middle of the ones I was given. This painting was the first step in reclaiming the life that I was too tired to show up in.
The story this painting started is a complete surprise to me — and one I'm so glad showed up. You truly do paint what you feel, even when you're not aware of it.
This painting is called Finding Beauty because that is exactly what it was. A practice. A choice. A quiet, daily act of looking up and saying — yes. I will find my way through. The original found its forever home with a collector who loves her. But the painting lives on — in fine art prints and gifts — because this is not a story that belongs to just one person.
It belongs to all of us who have had to look a little harder to find it.
The garden is open. You are welcome here. 💜
